A canvas is a flat, durable, and often rectangular surface used by artists as a foundation for their paintings. The term traditionally referred to a piece of fabric (usually cotton or linen) stretched tightly across a wooden frame. This stretched fabric provides a stable and resilient surface for artists to apply paint and create visual artwork.

In addition to traditional stretched canvases, artists may also use canvas boards, canvas panels, or even unmounted canvas rolls that allow for custom sizing and framing. Ours is a canvas starter set for young children and beginners. The starter set consisted of 1 piece of wood-frame mounted canvas, 20cm x 25cm square on wooden frame. On the canvas, it has drawings of various pictures in black outline ready for painting immediately. It also comes with a brush and six tiny tubs of paint for use on the canvas. The paint colours are basic and they are: black, white, red, yellow, blue and green.

The beginners can start painting anytime once they open up the shrink-wrapped canvas and using the tubs of paint and brush provided.
